  • Mechanical Design Engineer

    Full-Time

    SPEX is leading innovation in the application of energetic products in the Oil & Gas industry. As a specialist provider of unique solutions in areas including tubular cutting and recovery, casing/tubular removal and wellhead recovery, we are poised for significant growth in the late-life decommissioning and energy transition market. To support this growth, the Engineering Division is looking for a driven and enthusiastic Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team.

    You will work in a multi-disciplined team; the role involves providing engineering support on our portfolio of new downhole tools.  The role offers the opportunity to work on leading-edge technology in the application of energetics in a fast-growing oilfield market. The role includes being the lead engineer under general direction in the full product life-cycle, from concept and feasibility studies, prototyping, testing, production manufacture and sustaining.

     

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Undergraduate degree in engineering or equivalent and 5+ years Oil & Gas engineering experience
    • In lieu of Oil & Gas experience, candidates with a proven track record in the development of unique, novel technologies are welcomed to apply
    • Experienced in the use of Autodesk Inventor and Autocad
    • Excellent communication skills, a team player
    • An attention to detail and accuracy in task execution

    Key Responsibilities

    • Discussing and solving complex problems with engineering personnel, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers
    • Concept development and the preparation of designs supported by calculations, analysis and manufacturing drawings
    • Support the sourcing and acquisition of appropriate parts
    • Overseeing the building and testing of prototype equipment and the evaluation of theoretical designs, reporting results and making recommendations for improvement
    • Using research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modelling and computer-aided design, for concept development and evaluation

    The full-time position is based at our headquarters in Dyce, Aberdeen.
